Nature/Outdoor photography is one of the fastest growing, and we think, rewarding outdoor recreational activities in North America and beyond. Spending time outdoors with a camera not only focuses our attention on the natural beauty around us, but helps to strengthen our connection to the environment. Whether you enjoy photographing wildflowers, the grand landscape, streams, forests, wildlife, or the rural countryside in Vermont and New England let us help you develop the technical skills and creative vision that will allow you to capture the beauty of the world around us.

About the Workshops and Tourshops

Workshops and tours emphasize a small group, field based shooting experience and are limited to 12 people. Workshop participants can expect a variety of instructional experiences; each designed to expand their understanding of the creative and technical aspects of nature and outdoor photography.   Workshops are a good choice for individuals who are new to outdoor photography, looking to brush up on skills or are just getting into digital capture.  A portion of each workshop will be taught indoors where the instructor(s) will utilize slide presentations and demonstrations to illustrate photographic techniques, concepts, equipment, file management and post processing techniques. The remainder of the time will be spent out in the field practicing our new skills while your instructors provide hands-on assistance.

During toushops the majority of our time, sunrise to sunset will be spent in the field photographing the natural world as your guide(s) provide expert individualized and group assistance.  Since the emphasis of a tourshop is on shooting, participants should have a good working knowledge of their equipment, the basics of exposure and depth of field.  Depending on weather and tour location there may be the opportunity for image critique as well as post processing tips and tricks.

Typical Tour Itinerary

Friday
In order to optimize our time together, we will begin on Friday evening with an orientation and introductions, as well as an instructional slide show.

Saturday
We will reconvene on Saturday morning bright and early for a sunrise shoot followed by a full day of shooting at some of central Vermont's most beautiful spots. We'll finish the day by photographing sunset.

Sunday
Again we'll start bright and early with a sunrise shoot and continue shooting for the remainder of the day.

Odds and Ends

Field shooting locations are well scouted and easily accessible by vehicle. A short walk may be required to access some locations, however, no strenuous hiking will be necessary. Workshop participants who wish to strike out and explore the path less traveled will also be encouraged.

Tours and workshops will take place rain or shine. Many of the best photo opportunities come when the weather is less than ideal.

Workshop participants are required to provide their own transportation, lodging, meals, and equipment. We strongly encourage participants to carpool and dine together, thus conserving natural resources and optimizing our learning opportunities. In addition, all workshop participants should have a 35mm DSLR or film camera with interchangeable lens capability, as well as a tripod. Although the intructors are familiar with many features offered on today’s camera systems, it is assumed that each participant has good working knowledge of his/her camera.
